How do I enroll in a TOP plan online through Beneficiary Web Enrollment (BWE)?

To enroll in a TRICARE Overseas Program (TOP) plan online through Beneficiary Web Enrollment (BWE), follow the steps below:

Log in to milConnect here: https://milconnect.dmdc.osd.mil/.

Click on the “Benefits” tab.

Choose “Beneficiary Web Enrollment (BWE)” from the menu.

Pick the plan that you’re eligible for.

Please note that while BWE supports new TRICARE plan enrollments, including enrolling in TRICARE Select, it doesn’t support changing your TRICARE plan’s recurring payment arrangements. For more information on TRICARE Select enrollment and its fees, {contentlink=/select-retirees:click here}.

To learn more about BWE, click here.

How do I go about enrolling my newborn overseas?

You need to register your child in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) within 120 days of birth, adoption, or court appointment. Your newborn, adopted, or court-appointed child is automatically enrolled in TRICARE Select Overseas. If command-sponsored, you have 90 days from the automatic enrollment date to change to TRICARE Prime Overseas or TRICARE Prime Remote Overseas. Make sure your overseas address in DEERS is up to date.

If you don’t register your child in DEERS, he/she won’t show as TRICARE eligible. Claims for your newborn, adopted, or court-appointed child will deny starting on day 121 after birth, adoption, or court appointment. If you register your child in DEERS but don’t enroll in a plan, your newborn, adopted, or court-appointed child is automatically enrolled in TRICARE Select Overseas. You must wait until the next TRICARE Open Season to choose and enroll your child into a different TRICARE health plan.

If you register your child in DEERS late (after 120 days), your newborn, adopted, or court-appointed child will be automatically enrolled in TRICARE Select Overseas (when registered in DEERS). Coverage will be backdated to the date of birth, adoption, or court appointment. You have 90 days from the automatic enrollment date to change to a different plan. The new plan is backdated to the date of birth, adoption, or court appointment. You’ll need to ask the TOP Claims Processor to re-process any claims that were denied due to eligibility from day 121 to the date of your child’s automatic enrollment.

Can I make enrollment changes outside of the TRICARE Open Season?

The TRICARE {fontweight=500:Open Season} is an annual period when you can enroll in, change, or disenroll from a TRICARE health plan.

Any changes you make during the {fontweight=500:Open Season} go into effect January 1 of the following year. If you’re happy with your current TRICARE health care plan, you don't need to take any action during the TRICARE {fontweight=500:Open Season}. You’ll be automatically re-enrolled each year.

If you didn’t enroll or make changes to your TRICARE health plan during {fontweight=500:Open Season,} you must wait until the next {fontweight=500:Open Season} unless you have a TRICARE Qualifying Life Event (QLE). A QLE is a certain change in your life, such as a move, marriage, birth of a child, or retirement from active duty. This means TRICARE health plan options for you and your family may change. A QLE for one family member creates a chance for all eligible family members to change their TRICARE health plan. If you want to enroll in or change your plan, you must do so within 90 calendar days of the date of the QLE. Your coverage starts the date of the QLE and continues until you lose eligibility or disenroll.

Provider gender

Specialties

Contact information, including websites for individual and institutional providers

Languages spoken

Service limitations, if any

Driving directions to provider locations (through Google Maps)

Search results also include country-specific medical risk ratings (low, medium, high or very high). These ratings assign a level of health risk based on your location. TYA includes medical and pharmacy benefits, but not dental coverage. Coverage, provider choice, and costs for TYA are the same as for TRICARE Prime Overseas and TRICARE Select Overseas.

You may generally purchase TYA coverage if you’re a dependent of a TRICARE-eligible sponsor; unmarried; at least age 21, but not yet age 26; and not otherwise eligible for TRICARE or employer-based coverage. Up-to-date DEERS records are vital to accessing your TRICARE benefit. It’s critical to keep your DEERS information up to date so you and your family can use TRICARE. Errors in DEERS can cause problems with claims, authorization letters for referrals, and delivery of home delivery prescriptions. It’s also important to keep your information in DEERS up to date so you don’t miss important information and enrollment deadlines. Update DEERS whenever you have a change, such as a change in sponsor’s status (retiring or separating from Active Duty), National Guard or Reserve Member activation or deactivation, change in service status, getting married or divorced, or other Qualifying Life Events.
